Opinion - Maya Tichio on Voting against current use of speed cameras
May 28, 2026
The following opinion is written by NGA Board Member Maya Tichio, who also serves on the RTM in District 7, in advance of the June 8 meeting, for Item 33 on the docket, at which she intends to speak to the legislative body before their vote. Ms. Tichio joins several other members of NGA, who also serve on the RTM, plan on voting against Item 33 as well:
It goes without saying that everyone is for safe streets and protecting pedestrians, especially students walking to school. In addition, given the data provided by Blue Line Solutions “Blue Line”, speed cameras seem to be effective in slowing traffic. However, the speed cameras are in the wrong locations and the current contract fee structure is in violation of the State statute.

NGA STATEMENT REGARDING Greenwich TRAFFIC CAMERAS
March 26, 2026 - The Northeast Greenwich Association (NGA) appreciates the opportunity to engage constructively with Town leadership regarding traffic safety and the recently implemented traffic camera program. We share the First Selectman's stated commitment to public safety and acknowledge that speeding is a legitimate concern for residents of Greenwich. At the same time, NGA believes …
Call-A-Ride Seeks Volunteers for Free Transportation Service
In Greenwich, the nonprofit Call-A-Ride, founded in 1975, has provided FREE transportation in town for residents older than 60. You’ve likely seen their three Camrys cruising around town with the Call-A-Ride logo affixed to the roof.
Riders often express their heartfelt gratitude for being picked up and dropped off promptly on time for doctor appointments, grocery store runs, bank visits and errands.
Unfortunately, there are times when potential riders are being turned away when there aren’t enough volunteer drivers, so Call-A-Ride is putting out a plea for drivers to consider signing up to drive for a morning or afternoon shift, Monday-Friday.
Who We Are
The Northeast Greenwich Association (NGA) circa 1928.
We provide pertinent information, resources, and community services to the public in the Greenwich, CT area including, but not limited to the Northeast Greenwich region.
Why Become a Member?
How long have you been a resident of Greenwich? If you have for a while, I’m sure that you’ve wanted to hear directly from people like our First Selectman, State Senators, State Representatives, or the heads of our P&Z, Fire Dept., Police Dept., Commission on Aging, Public Health Dept., Schools, Hospital, Library, Aquarion, Audubon, etc. All of these people have spoken at NGA meetings within the past ten years, and members have had opportunities for one-on-one discussions with each of them.
Hot Topic issues also have been discussed so that we and our neighbors have been better able to understand what the real issues were, and which side they wanted to support. Additionally, I’ve found that I’ve reconnected with friends at NGA meetings that I hadn’t seen in some years, so have been able to enjoy an ever-expanding circle of Greenwich friends.
Many of them have local topics of interest that I’d not heard of before. The Annual Family Membership fee for NGA is $50. If you attend, you can easily enjoy some drinks, essentially gratis, while learning about some of the issues with which we should all be familiar. That’s what I call a win / win deal – a break-even! If you consider that learning more about the issues facing residents of the Town of Greenwich is important (of course it is!), consider paying a Membership Fee of $100 each year, or at least well North of $50. That way not only you but many of your neighbors will also learn more about these issues.
